DIRECTORS STATEMENT
Mr. Nice Guy is the 2nd collaboration between Tom Sutch & Rory Allan Meditz. Our first was on 2011's "The Guilty Party", also a micro-budget short. This project was more ambitious and challenging, but our hope is to turn into an ongoing web series that improves with each new chapter. This entry could be considered a "pilot" or first volume, but it is actually the first 4 chapters of 10 currently written, with even more to come.
This film grew out of the philosophy of "if you want to learn how to make a film, you must first make a film". I’m a big proponent of taking a hands on approach in art, and learn by doing. It grew from a small idea into something bigger as time went on. We faced many challenges, and had to squeeze in production and editing in the little free moments we had with our full-time careers. Time, money and equipment were never on our side. But I knew there was an opportunity here to learn new things, editing techniques, directing, animation and audio. The aim was to finish the film, but the goal was to become better filmmakers by doing it. The people who volunteered their time and energy to make that goal happen deserve the praise for they made us and this whole production better. We look forward to continue making new projects and achieving higher goals as we go. So many lessons were learned in the production of this film, but the most important being to never give up, even when finishing seemed like an impossibility, the satisfaction of that first screening is a feeling we will never forget.
